Let’s Talk Laundry

October 30, 2017

If I had to name my favorite chore, doing laundry certainly wouldn’t be it but I also don’t hate it. I feel a certain sense of gratification once I’ve completed a load (or 5 loads) of laundry. Until recently, I’ve never had a real laundry room but more of a laundry closet so I look forward to doing it a bit more these days. When I started learning about safe ingredients in products a few years ago, I realized that there are mounds of harmful chemicals that go into cleaning products and commercial laundry products include some of the most harmful and toxic.

I have tried so many detergents and cleaning agents over the years, I’ve found some that fit all of my requirements: they cleaned the clothes, they smelled good, and they didn’t have harmful ingredients, and I have tried some that were just the opposite. Because I haven’t really found one particular product to be named my favorite yet, I usually buy whatever is on sale at Whole Foods or our local health food’s store. And then I teamed up with Molly’s Suds

Molly’s Suds has spent years researching and discovering the cold facts about laundry detergent and has found a way to create a detergent that checks all of my boxes, so I love it! When the founder of the company lost her baby at birth, she had a lot of questions and found that cleaning products could have something to do with terrible circumstances such as hers.

In the United States alone 80,000 chemicals were approved for use by the TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act) and yet only 200 of the toxins were tested for human safety. Each year the list of chemicals change.

Furthermore, a report by the US Department of Health and Human Services proves that mothers pass chemicals to their babies via pregnancy and breast milk. Newborn baby cord blood and amniotic fluid had multiple non-natural toxins detected in it! The list of evidence such as this goes on and on but when it comes to protecting to me and my family, I’m going to do whatever it takes. So I look to companies like Molly’s Suds for help.

So even though doing laundry is often such a daunting task (I’ll admit that I put it off until the basket is overflowing), we should be smart about the products we are using and if we do, we can do this chore with the confidence that we are doing the best we can!

I’m so thankful for your blog post. I had heard some concerns with dryer sheets but not with detergents. Love the research you mentioned Molly’s suds has commuted too. Would love to try this for my family!

Melissa I think using safe chemical free products helps everyone and the environment. It is very important that consumers demand products that are not harmful. Manufacturers are not going to Change if we keep
Purchasing the “bad” stuff. Thank you!

This is a nobrainer! There is so much cancer and allergies from over exposure to unhealthy chemicals. We all need to mini Erin Brockovichs to expose the evil villians and get back to basics!

There are so many things out there were supposed to be choosing less chemicals
For and it is overwhelming! One less thing to worry about would be nice!

So true. Not knowing what is in your laundry detergents is a big deal. The smells alone when I walk down the detergent aisle in the stores gives me a headache. Can’t wait to try out Molly’s Suds.

I completely agree! I can’t even walk down the aisle without being blown away by the scent! I’m so glad you are aware of dangerous chemicals in our detergents!
