By now, if you’ve been following along, you know that there is more to being healthy than just eating healthy food. You have to take care of your whole self, not just pieces. That is why I am such a strong believer in doing everything that’s right for your body instead of doing a few things that are wrong. Take exercise for instance. It’s not very reasonable to expect that you will have a lean core next week if last night you ate a tub of ice cream, right? So, we can’t have one without the other.
Similarly, we can’t expect to have glowing skin if we don’t stay hydrated, exercise, and nourish it with the right vitamins and minerals. Did you know that your skin is your largest organ, therefore having the most absorbent powers? If we don’t keep our skin in mind, then who will? Certainly, not the major corporations who sell products filled with all kinds of suspicious chemicals. I don’t want to spend too much time preaching the ways on how to avoid all of those toxic ingredients but instead I want to encourage you to pull a few ingredients out of your pantry and make cosmetics that will save your skin!
The way I think about it is this: if you can use it in your kitchen, you can use it in your bathroom. No one ever said you couldn’t put oatmeal on your skin. I used to take oatmeal baths as a child to soothe itchy, irritated skin. Now, as I an adult, I know the powers of food and how we can use them to our advantage. It’s a win, win!
This mask has many skin-loving properties. First, turmeric is excellent at assisting your skin with aging and helps restore elasticity keeping it young and fresh. Raw oats are great at restoring moisture to the skin. They can also be a great source when fighting acne and/or dry skin. Apple Cider Vinegar, well, lets just say it works wonders! For starters, it also helps treat acne, removes dark spots, tightens skin, and helps to balance between oily and dry.
This mask leaves my skin feeling baby-soft and shines a pretty little glow. I use it in the morning and at night (not on the same day) whenever I have an extra 15 minutes. I put it on and rest my mind and body for just a sliver of the day. It’s worth it, believe me!
1 cup rolled oats
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp sea salt
1 tbsp turmeric powder
½ cup warm water
In a food processor, grind rolled oats until they form a powder.
Pour oat flour into a bowl and stir in vinegar and water. Stir until well combined.
Add in the turmeric and sea salt; stir.
Apply mask to clean, dry skin. Allow to dry for 15-20 minutes.
Wash with warm water and pat dry. Store in an airtight jar or container in the refrigerator.
